Junior Wells & Buddy Guy

Junior Wells comenzó a ganarse un nombre cuando en 1952 entró en la banda de Muddy Waters y demostró su poderío con la armónica sustituyendo a Little Walter. En la década de los 50 hizo grabaciones para diversos sellos y se encontró por primera vez con Buddy Guy en 1958 en Chicago con quien empezó a tocar en míticos clubs como el Theresa's.
Buddy Guy por su parte tocó en varias bandas en su Louisiana natal en la década de los 50, y se mudó a Chicago en 1957. Fichó para Chess Records y esa decisión no le benefició del todo puesto que no quisieron darle un papel protagonista en el sello que ya tenía a Muddy Waters o Howlin Wolf en plantilla y se convirtió en guitarrista para sesiones de grabación para estos y otros Artistas durante casi toda la década de los 60.
Para mediados de los 60 Wells muy influenciado por la época gloriosa de James Brown como vocalista, alterna a la perfección armónica y voz y es contratado por el sello Delmark para grabar en 1965 su primer disco como Artista principal, el que se llamaría "Hoodoo man blues" y pasaría a ser uno de los discos más importantes de la historia del Blues.
Después del éxito de "Hoodoo man blues" y con la revitalización del Blues por la generación de músicos europeos que en aquella época comenzaron a indagar en este estilo como Clapton o los Rolling Stones, Wells y Guy empezaron a colaborar con ellos así como a grabar juntos. Entre el 65 y el 98, año en que murió Junior Wells, realizaron en torno a 14 grabaciones juntos.

Junior Wells (9 de diciembre de 1934 - 15 de enero de 1998), nacido como Amos Wells Blakemore Jr., fue un músico estadounidense de blues de la vertiente Chicago Blues. Fue vocalista, armonicista y músico de estudio. Es conocido por sus participaciones y grabaciones con Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Magic Sam, Lonnie Brooks, The Rolling Stones y otros músicos de blues y rhythm and blues. Falleció a causa de un linfoma a la edad de 63 años.
